Michigan Renaissance Festival Discounted Overnight Package!

Transport into the 16th century during the Michigan Renaissance Festival's 29th season entertaining patrons in the village of Hollygrove. This season's theme is "The Legend Becomes You."

Roam the festive marketplace, featuring friendly village merchants lining every path. In addition to the fantastic selection of handcrafted wares, Hollygrove guests may also partake in games of skills or enjoy non-stop entertainment! Belly dancers, sword swallowers, musicians, comedians and swordfighters provide merriment for all ages. The Festival is best known for its awe-inspiring full-contact armored jousting tournaments where gallant knights defend their honor until the last man is standing. Open weekends and Labor Day Monday, August 16 through September 28 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m - RAIN OR SHINE. And always FREE parking.

ED MCGOWIN: Name Change.

Ed McGowin legally changed his name 12 times and has continued to create unique works of art under these different guises for the past three and a half decades. McGowin devised “The Name Change Project,” to challenge the conventional notion of a solo artist’s work following a “ linear chain-link model with each creation leading logically to the next.” The exhibition includes paintings, drawings, photographs, prints, sculptures, an installations. Love car racing? Head out to Auto City Speedway in Clio. Pits open at 3:30 p.m. on Fridays, grandstands open at 4:30, with qualifying at 6 and racing at 7:30 p.m. On Saturdays, pits open at 2:30 p.m., grandstands open at 4, with qualifying at 5 and racing at 7 p.m. For more information, call 810-686-6500.

Exploring the night sky has never been easier than with a SkyGuide from Longway Planetarium, Michigan's largest planetarium.

The monthly Skyguide will help you discover visible constellations and planets in the night sky. Next time you're watching the fireflies or having a bonfire, bring out your SkyGuide, and a flashlight, and see who can find the most constellations and planets in the night sky!

bikesIf biking or mountain biking is your thing, you'll love our rolling hills, and beautiful scenery and park land. Many Genesee County Parks offer 1-2 mile trails, as well as a BMX track at Richfield County Park. (Sanctioned by the National Bicycle League.)

Holly Recreation Area, one of several area State Parks, has 23 miles of biking trails in five loops at Holdridge Lakes. Holdridge Lakes Mt. Bike Trails were designed and now maintained by the Michigan Mountain Biking Association, and are some of the best in southeastern Michigan. The trails offer a variety of challenges, and are fun for all skill levels. An additional 8 miles of biking trails are also now available on the Wilderness Trail, surrounding McGinnis Lake Campground. Seven Lakes State Park also has mountain biking on a beautiful 5 mile trail.
